I am in the US, am running SVN, output to a 540p modeline, use the DVB
drivers to record with an HD-3000, and do not have any problems with
either 1080i or 720p broadcasts (or switching between the two). Just
offering a counter-example that you should be able to get something
reasonable with your available hardware and software.
