Kai,

  http://www.mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-9.html#ss9.1

You need to install mysql, and mythbackend on your headless server.
Then export the display to a machine with X. Run mythtv-setup and
configure as needed. Sorry about the confusion - you'll need to
configure the backend with mythtv-setup but you can export the display
as Graham said.

Then on your client (which needs X) install mythfrontend, spawn that and
configure it, pointing it at your backend.

Your backend does not need a X server running as long as you can export
the display to a box with X during configuration.

I don't know if Gentoo has seperate backend/frontend packages. Ubuntu
does for one, that's up to the distribution packagers not mythtv
themselves.

The best thing to do is just to install it and if you have problems ask
about them.

   Greg
