This doesn't answer your question, but why not just use "tivo-style" navigation,
which is much more convenient? I have the FF/Rew keys on my remote bound to
xine's "SeekRelative+30" and "SeekRelative-7" commands, and it's so much more
convenient than the FF/Rew method used by standalone DVD players.
