I have a working system and do not find that message in
/var/log/messages, either. Perhaps an expert can tell us
if this has changed.
You may want to visit the installation instructions at
ivtvdriver.org and http://ivtvdriver.org/index.php/Howto:Fedora
Jarod's guide was very helpful to me last November,
but there have been changes since then that may not
be reflected in his guide.

The syntax has changed, try
ivtvfbctl --help
to find the correct syntax.
-g, --globalalpha=<on>|<off>
toggle global alpha layer
-h, --help display this help
-l, --localalpha=<on>|<off>
toggle local alpha layer

I think that is more or less right.
