Turns out that (from what I can tell) the optional [bind_address:]
prefix was added to the -R command in OpenSSH 3.7

3.7: http://www.openbsd.org/cgi-bin/man.cgi?query=ssh&apropos=0&sektion=0&manpath=OpenBSD+3.7&arch=i386&format=html

The source servers that my company provides do not go that high.  We
mod most of our sources before we bless them.  This could get tricky.
