The last I heard, which was 5 or 6 weeks ago, there was a patched  
version of LIRC around someplace that was able to use both "heads" of  
the device you are speaking of, both the receiver and the transmitter  
portion.

Unfortunately I do not have any info on whose patch it was etc.

So I'd start by checking out the official LIRC site and seeing what  
the current status might be.

Since everybody who has bought a retail version of a 150 recently has  
one of these I'd expect it would have some very active development  
happening with it.
