I don't have an OTA antenna. My system is down in the basement, and the
area I live in (close to the front face of the Rocky Mountains) is
notorious for bad reception.

Yes. A couple of brief periods during which my Firewire worked, I got a
couple of HD recordings that play back reasonably well. Besides, I know
it's in the recording and not the playback, because even the thumbnails
of HD3000 recordings that Myth displays have the problem.

Pentium 4 3.2Ghz w/hyperthreading
ASUS P4P800-E motherboard
PVR-500 as analog tuner (works great)
Nvidia GeForce 5500 video card

Is that a motherboard?

Not impossible I suppose, but I have no idea how to tell. I could try
the card in another machine, but I don't think I have another machine
with enough horsepower. Maybe if I don't do anything but record, my ASUS
Pundit-R with a Celeron 2.4Ghz could do it?
Right now it sure sucks, because I can't get either of my HD recording
devices to work (Firewire or HD3000), after I spent a few weeks finally
getting a good modeline for my TV so that I can do HD display.
