The new hard-disk route sounds a little bit extreme to me! The easiest
thing to do here is just to backup your 0.18 database, if things don't
work out with 0.19 then just drop the updated database and restore
from the backup you made then re-install 0.18 and your back to where
you where.

See sections 23.5 or 23.6 of the MythTV docs for details on how to
backup and restore your database.
