[mythtv-users] keeping mythtranscode under control

I don't have much luck with transcoding so I try not to use it most of
the time. Is there a way to prevent it dragging the whole server down
when it inevitably goes wrong? It doesn't seem to hog CPU, just memory.
If I don't kill the process the backend also grinds to a halt. Is it
possible to limit a program's memory usage, and if so, where does
mythtranscode get launched?
mike.
