Yes, you can actually enable an option in your config so that these
recordings show up in your list of current recordings and can be
selected and played again.

This is a deliberate feature.   Having independent underlying
systems for live TV and recorded TV was never a great idea, so
now Live TV is more like a special case of recording.

The recordings go into spare space, and are deleted before
any "real" recording would be, so it is the same as it was
before, but now you can make a recording permanent including
the part already watched, for example, and even rewind through
channel changes and other cool things.
