Don't worry too much about the RAM limitations. Slowish menus are  
about all you're going to have to be fretting over. But the  
difference you're noting probably has to do with different versions  
(as in kinds, not version numbers) of Top. My Mac OS X "Top" displays  
multi-threded apps in a single listing (like your AMD64 system does),  
however, my Debian systems and Xebian system (essentially the same  
distro) do not.
