Support for MPEG2 hardware capture cards with ivtv is much more recent
than that for the framegrabber cards, such as the WinTV Go, and needs
to be stable, mature, and integrated into the existing Video4Linux2
architecture before it can be added to the mainline kernel.

Also note that the many Hauppauge TV cards (as with most manufacturer
hardware) are not all supported with a single driver - I use bttv (in
kernel) for my older Brooktree-based WinTV framegrabber cards,
cx88-dvb for my Nova-T DVB-T card (in kernel) and ivtv for my
PVR-150/350 cards (hopefully in the 2.6.18/2.6.19 kerne - thanks
Hans!). Newer WinTV framegrabber cards are Conexant-based I think, and
so use another driver.
