[mythtv-users] requirements for front end

i'm curious as to what the cpu requirements for the front end are, and 
how exactly tasks are distributed using mythtv.
does the backend do all the work, then send everything over the network 
to the frontend, so all the front end needs to be able to do is 
playback streamed video? or is it more cpu intensive on the front end 
side?
the reason i ask, is because my backend (at the moment) is a p4 1.8 
running a pvr-150. which is great for recording tv, but not so good for 
watching it. so i'm wondering if i put the front end on a faster 
computer, if it would work better.
any advice would be great.
