In an attempt to bring your thread back to the original problem...
I had the same problem you did with closed captioning, but didn't
really look in to it. So, I just popped over to my Myth box, ran
mythtv-setup, and checked the cc'ing options in the "General" section.
The VBI was set to none, so I bumped it to "NTSC closed captioning",
and exited the setup app. I ran "/etc/init.d/mythbackend restart" ...
and both my -250 and -350 happy will display the close captioning
text.
In short, you may wish to try to get 0.4.2 working.
