Well I've sorted the problem out to some extent. Modeline was not the 
primary issue. Xv seems to be causing the weird video resizing. If I 
disable it commenting out 'Option "VideoOverlay" "on" ', video plays ok. 
Any ideas? Driver issue maybe?
