[mythtv-users] Experience with PCX5300

Since I've heard people refer incorrectly it, here's a brief
description of my experience with the Nvidia PCX5300, the PCI Express
version of the venerable FX5200.

I bought mine used through eBay to replace a 6200GT. I'd been using
the 6200GT to output 1080p to a 37" 1080p panel, and figured that I
could just replace one card for the other with minimal or no changes
to xorg.conf. Nope; as it turns out, the PCX5300 can't do 1080p and
rejected my 1080p modelines. The best it can do is 1080i. So I had to
rewrite the modeline.

Output looked good. As I've previously written, with the 6200GT I need
VBlank on Sync (the non-OpenGL one) in nvidia-settings enabled, plus
Bob (2x), to get smooth, tear-free HDTV (720p, 1080i, 1080p)
output. With the PCX5300 I needed neither.

That said, I really couldn't see any meaningful improvement in the
1080i output from the PCX5300 versus what I already had with the
6200GT, so I put the 6200GT back in and I guess the PCX5300 is up for
sale again.
