Have you tried running a MYSQLCHECK on your db? Something similar happened
to me when I tried to FF. It would FF for a bit then turn pixelated then
just stop FFing. I ran the check and it fixed somethings and now it works
perfectly. I actually put it in a cron job so I wouldn't have to bother
with it again.
