I'm running gentoo x86_64 with a 2.6.14-r5 gentoo kernel...  forcedeth 
also works just fine...  The Nvidia NFORCE package ships with their 
version of an ethernet driver....  and there are ways to 'unalias' 
forcedeth so that the Nvidia ethernet driver is used instead...  but 
since forcedeth has worked for me...  I'm never bothered.
