Thank you all for the info. I did run the "sudo mtd -d" command, and
ripping did work.
Thanks again for the info. I would never have gotten this far without
the help of this community.

Try running "sudo mtd -d" first (this command will start the transcoding
daemon.) then run the frontend again and try to rip the DVD.
I think Myth will start it up if it's not running, but I'm not certain.
