OK, the problem in my previous message is fixed (mysqld was
running with --skip-networking) but I still can't connect from my
remote mythfrontend. Here is what I get when invoking it on the remote
box:

You probably should modify the Master Server
settings in the setup program and set the
                        proper IP address.

Other than this, I have the following:

    1) On the backend, with mythtv-setup I have specified that the
name of the backend and master backend is B.

    2) When invoked from the backend box, mythfrontend works fine.

    3) The remote frontend is trying to connect to B all right.

    4) A telnet from the remote box to B, to ports 3306 and 6543,
establishes the connection all right.

    5) Both machines are in the same network - there are no firewall
issues to bear in mind.

    6) The user on the remote from which mythfrontend is being invoked
can reach the database on B, by means of the command

mysql -u mythtv -pmythtv -hB mythconverg

Everything seems to be fine, but the remote mytfrontend still does
not work. Any ideas, anybody?
