As suggested, I am restating my initial difficulties in setting up a freecom
DVB-T tuner. I am running a Debian Etch system

The manufacturer/product id for this device is 14aa:225, which is
approximately, but not exactly the device numbers given on this page

http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/DVB_USB

I have loaded the modules suggested except for crc32 which doesn't appear to
exist 2.6.16 debian version of the kernel.

When I plug the device in, I can see is adding an entry into the /sys
filesytem, but no new devices appear in /dev. I am running udev but not
hotplug, because (according to Debian) the functionality of hotplug is now
contained within udev.

I am not clear what I should do next. Do I need to load the firmware for the
correct device nodes to be built, or do I need to get udev to recognise the
device and then use that to load the firmware?

How can I find out which variant of this tuner I have so I know which
particular firmware I should install - and where should I put it
(both /lib/firmware and /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware exist on my system).
