Hello

Nick,

In debian apt-get uses two stages.
First you use "apt-get update' to update the local package database.
Then you issue "apt-get upgrade" or "apt-get dist-upgrade" to actually
upgrade the packages. You will find this to be the longer process.
dist-upgrade is the smarter version of the two, that occationally deletes
some "lesser important" package in that is in the way of a more important
package. However, it can create havok sometimes. If you want to install a
new package, you can issue "apt-get install <package name>. To find the
correct package name , apt-cache search <searchstring> is often of help.
goodluck and enjoy debian!

I don't know knopmyth so I don't know about the other mail to your question
that upgrading knopmyht will lead to problems. (There is only one way to
find out:-)

Regards,

Bert
