a web search turns up this:
  http://willy.boerland.com/myblog/useful_mythtv_links
which links to a cache of
  http://www.bricoleur.org/archives/000254.html
which says

"Change your mythtv menu structure to accomodate SoftSqueeze. For me, I added the following to the file /usr/share/mythtv/mainmenu.xml:
<button>
 <type>PLAY_MUSIC</type>
 <text>Play Music</text>
 <action>EXEC /usr/bin/java -jar /home/mythtv/SoftSqueeze/SoftSqueeze.jar</action>
</button>
"

searching also turns up this page about SoftSqueeze on the Xbox, with some
info about setting up a minimal LIRC config. I say minimal because, as a
Squeeezebox user, I can't imagine giving up any of the keys, especially
numeric keys for Favorites, and the Now Playing key

Please do create a Wiki if you get this working; that would be good.

P.S. It's not remote-control friendly, but the Slimserver web interface
is very nice, too. Like the MythWeb interface, some tasks are more easily
accomplished through the web interface.
