I presume you're using Coax. If so, check channel 4 as well. To be
honest, for simplicity I've got my STB going composite rather than
coax... it means I just use my straight video input. It eliminates
hassle and fiddling... and results in slightly better video input in my
experience.

No way to turn it off, but yes it's because the card has a lag time
caused by the encoding of video. Since that's all the card does, that's
all it's ever going to do. Even if you could turn off the encoding
function then there'd still be a slight lag caused by latency of the raw
video data coming across the PCI bus, being processed by the PC and then
displayed on the screen. Even with a dumb capture card and just mplayer
going to /dev/video0 the lag is there and annoying. Just get a video
input switchbox or get a TV with multiple inputs. Mine has front inputs
I use for my video game system.
Can't help on the mySQL issues... others have weighed in on that
already.
