If you get anywhere, I'd like to know - I've been looking at GFS for
other things, and keep meaning to try it with a shared firewire disk :)

You /might/ be better just getting a gigabit link between the two
backends and using NFS - that should be plenty for 2 streams, and the
other two would be local.

It would mean that all the disk access was via a single controller,
which is likely to improve performance (as well as allowing you to pick
your filesystem).

Obviously you end up with a SPoF, but depending on your setup you've
probably got one anyway somewhere :)
