I'm just about done building my MythTV system. It works really well.
As long as I use the keyboard. lirc is a non-starter. Here is what I
know>
# lspci -v:
00:0c.0 Multimedia video controller: Internext Compression Inc iTVC15 MPEG-2 Encoder (rev 01)
Subsystem: Hauppauge computer works Inc. WinTV PVR-350
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 17
Memory at e8000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=64M]
Capabilities: [44] Power Management version 2
# ivtvctl --list-capability
ioctl VIDIOC_QUERYCAP ok
Driver name : ivtv
Card type : Hauppauge WinTV PVR-350
Bus info : 0000:00:0c.0
Driver version: 1792
Capabilities : 0x010700F3
Video card:
nVidia Corporation NV34 [GeForce FX 5200] (rev a1)
I can start the lircd daemon, but as soon as I run irw, the daemon dies with a
'caught signal' error.
Here is a snippet from my /var/log/messages showing what's installed:

Apr 13 18:59:12 mythtvbe lircd-0.8.1-CVS[4538]: caught signal
I couldn't find any device naemd /dev/lirc, so I tried creating it by
hand and got the exact same error message.
# cd /dev
# mknod lirc c 61 0
# chmod 666 lirc
Any thoughts or pointers? I've read and reread Jarod's guide, but still
don't get it. I only have Linux systems so am not really able to test it
under Windows.
