 The real problem is that none of the developers are experiencing these
insanely long channel change times. And those that do unfortunately are not 
submitting code to correct the problem or explain why it's happenning
on their systems. Awful hard to "fix"  a problem you can't reproduce.

 A buffer, of some sort is required. How much of one and how it's implemented
is another matter.

 If you'd like to submit some patches to help fix the delay you are running
into people will be willing to look at it.
