HTTP over SSH works for me:

ssh -L 8000:mythbox-ip-addr:80 username at example.com && \
firefox http://localhost:8000/ &

This has the added bonus of not needing to have authentication set up on the
server, since the machine that handles the SSH connection (in my case, an NSLU2
behind a WRT54GL) authenticates the connection.
