[mythtv-users] Volume controls go wonky when skipping

I recently installed the 0.19 frontend on my laptop, which is running
UBuntu. The laptop has some hardware audio issues (regardless of which OS
I run, it's about 50-50 whether I get sound - a reboot doesn't fix it, it
needs to be shutdown and started up again)
Anyway, the volume levels on my recordings is very low, and when combined
with the poor volume on my laptop, I have to have everything set at 95%+
to be able to hear anything (hardware volume, master volume, Myth volume,
PCM volume) So far, no problems.
For a while, every time I started playing back a new recording in the
frontend, my master volume level was being reset to the default value
which made everything too quiet. A minor annoyance. Last night, when I
was watching a recording and hit commercial skip, (or skip, or jump) the
volume level was resetting itself to something inaudible again. This time
it seemed to be setting the PCM volume to 0, or close enough that it makes
no difference.
Any thoughts?
FWIW, it's a year and a half old Toshiba laptop, and I will not be buying
a Toshiba laptop ever again - had the motherboard replaced twice under
warranty, the HD expired just after the warranty etc...
