can you ssh into the machine?  if you can you could just enable X11
forwarding through ssh.  it will be slow but it should be usable i
would think.  i've forwarded just the frontend menus and stuff over
the internet.

all the settings for the frontend that i can think of are definitely
stored in the database.  i guess you could edit the database directly
but that is probably NOT recommended, especially for the novice myth
user.

pvr-150 most surely CAN NOT record directly to mpeg4, only mpeg2.  you
were probably reading about someone transcoding recordings to mpeg4
after the fact.
