But why does recording the TV sound work outside MythTV then? I really don't think the problem is in the cable, otherwise, the TV sound would always be bad, not just in MythTV...

I'm sugguesting it may be some combination of capture card and driver
because the capture card has to pass the audio through to the sound
card's in. If it's not the sound card responsible for the distortion,
then maybe it's the pass-through.

Or could it even be a bum cable?
