You may not realize it, but you don't need to use samba or NFS to share 
recordings. That's all handled between the backend and the frontend. For 
other files, though, like video for MythVideo, or pictures for MythGallery, 
or music for MythMusic, you do need to share them out with NFS (the 
preferred way) or samba or some other scheme. 

This doesn't answer your question, though. I really don't have any advice to 
offer you, because I've never seen the problem. Changing to NFS obviously 
won't help, though.
