HDCP has already been cracked (and it didn't take very long by all accounts), but the details haven't been published (yet) for fears of enraging the god of the DMCA (eeeeek!).  It's only a matter of time before someone has the balls (or stupidity) to publish.

Someone else will want to crack it, if only for the sake of saying they've done it.  Viva la resistance!

It's sad to think that they (the media companies) probably won't miss the revenue from linux users who can't view (and therefore won't buy) their content - that's IF they've even considered we still exist.

Anyway - all this encryption isn't going to hinder piracy.  Sure it'll postpone it for a little while, but it's not going to stop anybody.  If stopping piracy was all that this was about, they'd not be going to such extreme lengths (that's what lawsuits are for isn't it?).  So are we going to sit & watch another tiny bit of our freedom disappear?  Probably.
