I also have a 440mx and I use nvtv to enable the tv-out.  This is my start 
script:
nvtv --tv-on -r 768,576 -s Large
mythfrontend
nvtv -m

I used the settings in mythfrontend so mythfrontend is exactly placed on the 
part of the desktop that is shown on the tv.  See
