Here's an alternative.

1) Burn your recording to disk.
2) Create a link to the burned file on the media in your videos dir - eg
$ ln -s /media/cdrom/Bladerunner.avi Bladerunner.avi
3) The file will show up in the video listings and play when you
choose to play it - just make sure you inserted the disk first, that's
all!
