I've had the same problems, but only with a card that uses this driver (cx88_dvb module), I think it was a hauppauge WinTV Nova-T but I could be wrong. I tried different kernel patches, versions, etc., etc. but never got it to be properly reliable. I finally replaced it with another card and haven't seen the problem since.
