I may be way off base here....but my attempts to run my Wega from
VGA to component using a dongle met with an equal lack of success.

The problem is in the sync signal used by high def televisions is radically
different from the sync signal used by standard television.

The familiar back porch/front porch sync has been replaced with a
"tri-level" sync specific to high definition. Unless your video card can
emulate this sync signal you are out of luck.

I was able to use my component dongle (from ATI) on an ATI ALL-IN-WONDER
but only in windows.....I never had any luck in Linux, and using a scope
on the component out showed the ATI Linux drivers were using standard sync
instead of tri-level sync.

So I got an Nvidia 5200 with hmi cable and never looked back.

Hope this helps !

Barry
