I found stuff from several Google searches. Here are some of the
relevant bits of my config file:

        Modeline "720p" 74.25 1280 1312 1592 1648 720 735 742 757
# Modeline "720p-no_overscan" 74.25 1152 1248 1528 1648 672 710 718 757
        ModeLine "ATSC-1080-59.94i" 74.176 1920 1960 2016 2200 1080 1082 1088 1125 Interlace
        Mode "960x540p"
                DotClock 37.26
                HTimings 960 976 1008 1104
                VTimings 540 542 548 563
                Flags "+HSync" "+VSync"
        EndMode

Section "Device"
Option "NoDDC" "1" # Don't ask the monitor about supported modes
        Option "IgnoreDisplayDevices" "TV" # "CRT,TV"
        Option "NoLogo" "true"

Section "Screen"
        Depth 24
        Modes "720p" "ATSC-1080-59.94i" "960x540p" "ATSC-480-59.94p" "320x240"

The -no_overscan mode doesn't help--it stretches the data that it gets
such that after Myth scales to the new size, I get the exact same thing
displayed, only with lower resolution. Also, the startup says that my
720p is just a hair too slow. I have no idea what the hsync/vsync flags
are for; different modelines that I find on the net are inconsistent.

My window manager is wmi, and I'm fairly happy with the xrandr support.
Now I just need to figure out how to force the right mode for various
aspects of MythGame, as well as how to set the sizes and positions on
games to avoid overscan (some actually don't support -geometry).
