I found an easier solution. I rolled my kernel back to 2.6.10 and 
reinstalled fglrx. No more DRI errors and mythtv is silky smooth again. 
I'll wait until ATI fixes the issues with the 2.6.11 kernel before 
upgrading. Not that I wasn't looking forward to recompiling the 2.6.11 
kernel. ;)

Anyway, problem solved.
