That part is easy. The patent office has become a service catering to those
large companies wanting to stifle innovation by pattenting everything to do
with their product. Its no longer about protecting innovation from the big
companies. It has fallen prey to the big bucks of the kickback system just
like the drug approval process. </soapbox>
