[mythtv-users] Fwd: mtd causing hard lockups

I realize now that I completely forgot to mention what version of
MythTV I'm using--I was tired. I'm using .17 for myth and all the
plugins. Any ideas? Should I maybe send this to the dev list as
well?

At least, I think it is mtd that is causing it. Let me explain:
my system (Gentoo, kernel 2.6.10-gentoo-r6) runs fine for days with no
problems, unless I rip a DVD.

I don't leave mtd running because I had run into problems with it
before and decided to give up on DVD ripping for the time (actually, I
had even re-emerged mythdvd without transcode support so that I
couldn't lock it up by accident.) It seems that I can generally rip a
movie (or even several in a row) with no problems. But after I take
the movie out, or sometimes in the middle of ripping (although I MIGHT
have fixed this), and try to do anything in MythTV, the machine locks
up, and requires a hard reset.

I turned off the options for checking for optical disks being inserted
(Media Monitoring) and set the MythDVD option for a new DVD to "Do
Nothing". I did this because I had noticed that those options caused
the system to mount the DVD, and I thought that might contribute to
the lockups.

Looking through logs hasn't turned up anything (although I could be
logging the wrong things--suggestions?) DMA for the DVD drive (NEC
ND-3500A DVD+/-RW) is turned on, on the drive and in the BIOS.
Burning works fine (CDs, at least, haven't tried DVDs yet). watching
DVDs works fine. Because of all that, I'm pretty sure it's something
funky with mtd. I'm not sure how to run transcode without using mtd,
so I haven't been able to test it like that.

If anyone needs anymore information, please ask. Any help would be
greatly appreciated.
