[mythtv-users] 0.17 upgrade - mythtv no longer recording

Hey all,

I've upgraded this week from mythtv 0.16.1 which was very stable on my
VIA EPIA/Eden box. Kernel is 2.4.21-0.26mdkcustom and I'm using a PVR350
in the UK (ie PAL).

Unfortunately, it's not been a smooth upgrade to 0.17! I found that
playback was badly broken up in mythtv (<0.5fps with both audio and
video artifacts), although mplayer playback was fine.

Googling the mail lists, forums and wikis seemed to suggest that
upgrading the ivtv to Chris Kennedy's latest driver build (0.2.0-rc3g)
might help. So, I did this, and it seems to have mostly fixed playback.
It's sometimes slightly unresponsive to keystrokes, but playback
basically runs smoothly.

However, I can't record *at all* through mythtv any more.

Running `dd if=/dev/video0 of=test.nuv bs=64` gives a perfect recording
which I can playback through mplayer. Recording in mythtv or trying to
watch live tv gives the same error sequence in the backend log,
whichever recording profile I try:

Error setting codec params
VIDIOC_S_CTRL:: Invalid argument
2005-03-10 21:04:07.812 TVRec: Recording Prematurely Stopped

dmesg output doesn't say anything's wrong; the only thing slightly out
of ordinary seems to be several repeated 'saa7115: decoder set size'
messages.

I've compiled mythtv with -march=pentium-mmx -m3dnow, and after I
upgraded the ivtv to 0.2.0, I recompiled mythtv with the extra DEFINES
+= USING_IVTV_HEADER. I've checked the myth db and it's still set fine
as an x50 decoder with MPEG2PS codecs (as previously worked on 0.16 over
ivtv 0.1.9).

Have I missed a db update to the codecparams table? Can anyone suggest
anything else I should try? Since it all works outside mythtv, I'm
struggling to work out where to look next.

TTFN,
Nick
