You really have to choices: Burn VCDs, SVCDs, or DVDs for playback using 
those playback tools.  Or just write the NUV files to a CD or DVD and 
play them back.  The former has the ability to playback on devices other 
than MythTV.  The latter has the advantage of not requiring re-encoding 
of content to another format.  Of course, depending on the value of your 
time, buying a bigger disk could just simply be the cheapest solution.  
With 160GB drive regularly showing up with rebates around $50-$60, it's 
not that expensive compared to buying media and spending time shuffling 
content.
