What about letting frontends stream from an NFS mount for their
ringbuffer rather than via the Myth protocol, IE like Recorded
Programs can. This would allow all frontends to stream off a common
"ringbuffer" on a NFS share. They could be anywhere within the stream,
and the backend itself would take care of truncation / etc when the
file gets too big?

It sounds like it could improve performance as well, since you could
relocate the mount location etc.
