I'm not clear as to what you are attempting to use it for.
I have mine setup so that both outputs are initialized as framebuffers, with the secondary configured for NTSC, using the adapter (RCA plug).
I've got a document you could look at, don't know how much help it will be, but it is another resource.

I should mention I use X Windows on both displays, and have a custom X application running independently on the television port. MythTV doesn't use the Matrox card, but I don't see why using a movie player couldn't playback over it, regardless of whether you use the Matrox X server (driver) or framebuffer X server (driver).
