[mythtv-users] Re: Installation issue - Couldn't find package Synaptic

Still learning here. So if I understand correctly - the packages
occasionally go into "testing" phases? (I'd assume this happens when the
package is experiencing a rev or upgrade). If so, then I would expect
that the "apt-get install synaptic" command would install the latest
stable (non-testing) build of Synaptic. Why is this not true?

On another note, I was on the IRC channel last night and the folks there
were very helpful. They showed me where the document is that controls
whether you are downloading "test" packages or not. They suggested that
if synaptic is that important to me, I may want to switch apt to
download it's testing version, then switch apt back again for the rest
of the myth install.

I'm a very GUI person (Mac user), so I may do this. For may last (and my
only other) Myth install, Synaptic was a very valuable tool for me when
I wanted to upgrade utilities, players, and Myth itself. I can't imagine
a MythTV install without Synaptic.

Thanks for the input everyone. I really appreciate it.

The contents of ATrpms are pretty much always changing. Breakage happens
from
time to time, or a new version of a package (like Synaptic, in this case)
downgrades the stability class to testing or bleeding. If you're not
comfortable tweaking things a little bit yourself, problems are usually
resolved pretty quickly, when reported through the proper channels
(i.e., the
atrpms-user mailing list and/or bugzilla.atrpms.net).
