The 15-2116 is also a learning remote.  You could change the key
configuration for the channel keys in lirc and then teach them to the
channel keys on the remote.

The best way would be to pick different keys on the hauppague remote
and map them to channel change (up/down) in lirc, and then use the
hauppague remote to teach these buttons to your remote.

I have this same remote and instead of using the RC-5 setting I taught
all of the commands to it from the hauppauge remote.  Its not all that
much more work and it might provide a workaround for your problem.
