I use a DVI-HDMI adapter to my 1280x720 DLP and the following modeline works
for me:
Modeline "1280x720" 74.160 1280 1352 1392 1648 720 728 730 750 +hsync +vsync
This one might also work for you (doesn't for me).
Modeline "1280x720 at 60" 73.78 1280 1312 1592 1624 720 735 742 757

And when I used an RGB-->Component transcoder (tranceiver?) I used this:
Modeline "1200x666" 74.456 1200 1322 1448 1664 666 695 697 746 -hsync +vsync

The last one had no overscan, the first two had quite a bit of overscan...so
to avoid having xine display videos and whatnot larger than the screen, I
ran xine with the following command:
xine -G 1170x659+18+27 -B -pq --no-splash --no-logo

And I keep the mythfrontend at that same size (1170x659 x+18 y+27)
xmame/xmess.x11 will also allow you to set the windowsize/position.

Hopefully some of that will help.
