[mythtv-users] Is it possible to add new recording profiles in addition to the basic 4?

Before I manually edit the database to see whether this works, I want
to see if it's actually possible to create extra profiles (for my
PVR-x50 cards) that give me more flexibility than the existing 4
(Live, default, HQ, LQ) give me. I really want to be able to have
profiles for 480x576, 640x480 and 720x576 in a variety of bitrates. Is
this what 'custom recording profiles' offer? My probably incorrect
understanding of these is that they apply for post-recording
transcoding rather than record-time profiles.

There was a post about 18 months ago that states that TPTB removed
this capability, but as I'm loathe to swap to SVN in case I need to
edit source (very full recording schedules at the moment) hopefully
someone can give me an answer.
