The WinTV PVR USB2 is now working under linux (well for me).

Its from Haupaugge, the makers of the WinTV PVR series (150/250/350/500).

The ConvertX *is* the supported device and you are correct that it is 
not a TV tuner.  You need an external tuning source like a cable box, 
satellite system, or VCR to provide the tuning and feed the video/audio 
to the ConvertX.
